Q: Should I complete HW0 (and HW1) if I am waitlisted. Answer: YES, please complete them if you are hoping to ultimately enroll. For HW0, instructions for how to bootstrap it are posted on courseworks, which will be available to everyone at Columbia until the end of the registration period. To find the courseworks page for the course, search for 4113 on Vergil.
Q: Why was I bumped/denied from the waitlist? Answer: There has been a recent change in the CS department’s policy for how to handle the waitlists. Communication has been sent to the student body regarding this change and how “denials” from the waitlist should be interpreted. We suggest you consult that email, but in short, “denial” often means that it appears unlikely that you will make it into the class. Still, if you think you qualify, and are VERY interested in taking this class, you can feel free to add yourself back into the waitlist.
Q: Some other CS classes overlap this one; can I take this one along with one or more of the others? Answer: No.
Q: I am a non-CVN student. Can I take this class without being present on campus? Answer: We are offering the course only in in-person format, with the exception of CVN. Thus, the answer is no. However, if you anticipate only having to skip a couple of lectures, know that we do record and make available the lectures. So you can register in that case. However, the exam and a subset of OHs will require in-person presence.
